The spokesman of Punjab Health Department said on Tuesday that so far only 15 persons have been confirmed to suffer from the dengue virus in the province during the current year. The spokesman said that there is no truth in the news items asserting that 78 persons had been found to be affected by the virus.
Earlier, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Punjab had released statements that the government was hiding the real stats of dengue patients in the province to save their face before the next general elections. These claims had been out rightly rejected by the provincial health department.
The spokesman also said that during the last six months, in various hospitals of the province, laboratory tests had been conducted on 1074 patients who had visited the hospitals with high-grade fever, however, only 15 persons had been found to be affected by the dengue virus while the rest suffered from normal fever.
