A bail application of Christian Girl Rimsha was submitted in the court of Sessions Judge Islamabad in the blasphemy case after the six-member medical board of Polyclinic Hospital presented its medical report of the girl in the court.
The girl was produced before court of the Sessions Judge Raja Jawad Hassan Abbasi on Tuesday and the Counsels for the accused Parvez Khan and Tahir Naveed Chaudhry in their arguments took the plea that under Juvenile Justice Ordinance Section 7, the accused is just 14 years of age and not adult and Ramna police registered a case against her on 16th August. They requested the court for release of their client on bail.
The judge rejected the bail the application on the ground that it was not filed on the proper form and directed him to file a fresh application. The counsel for the accused filed a fresh application which was admitted for consideration and the judge adjourned the hearing till Thursday.
As the hearing began in the morning, strict security arrangements were made at the district courts to avoid any untoward incident. A large number of people were also present in the court during the hearing.
Tahir Naveed Chaudhry, the lawyer of a Christian girl accused of blasphemy, talked with the media after the court hearing in Islamabad on Aug 28, 2012. Rimsha, aged 11 to 16 according to different reports, is accused of burning pages from a children’s religious instruction book inscribed with verses from the Koran, Islam’s holy book. She was arrested and remanded in custody on August 23rd.

  1. What has the chronological age to do with this unfortunate case. If we are told the girl suffers from Downs syndrome it says it all. The holy book itself forgives her! Please have we not other matters to attend to in courts. Can't we just come out of" pakistani box" and see how the rest of the world perceives us. We who fight for Pakistan's image find it difficult to make a argument to defend such nonsense. I was really embarssed at the Rotary Club meeting today. Please consider the consequent analysis of such cases on a international level. Let us not appear to be a bloodthirsty nation. Compassion and mercy should be the call of the day and not lynching in public.

    • Her age is important as she would now tried in a juvenile court and not in the regular one where she can be given the dealth penalty!(sic) Although no one has executed underthe blasphemy laws in pakistan, the question is what to do with mob mentality and vigilante justice? The police took the child most probably to 'protect' her. Once the issues fizzles out, she would be back in her village (more probably she would be relocated though) Its still an unfortunate incident though that should no never have occured!

      • The claim that she probably has Downs syndrom could be' deliberate disinformation' to placate the mullahs! Her mental status should not determine the outcome because the blasphemy law itself is grossly unfair and discrimatory and should be repealed!

  2. The girl is 14 years old and she is not suffering from any disease set aside down syndrome. It is ridiculous how she found the exact book to burn. You want to burn our books, go do it in a christian state. Not is a Muslim country.

  3. when death was given to holy scripture destroyers then paper was not invented . To save a ingle copy these ind of death penalities were given .
