Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said that Pakistan believes that the founding principles of NAM‚ including peaceful co-existence‚ sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries provide the firm basis for enduring peace and stability in the world.
She was addressing the NAM Ministerial meeting’s interactive debate on Lasting Peace through Joint Global Governance” here on Tuesday.
She said growing confrontation over Iran’s nuclear programme threatened further instability in the broader region. “In our view‚ dialogue and diplomacy should be the only instrument to resolve outstanding issues”, she said.
The Foreign Minister believed that a peaceful resolution of the issue is still possible on the basis of reciprocal confidence-building measures.
She said being a vibrant democracy Pakistan holds promotion and protection of human rights and democratic ideals very dear to its hearts. “We are deeply committed to the nurturing and strengthening of these values. In our own region‚ Afghanistan will need support of the NAM fraternity as it moves towards the transition phase in 2014”, she said.
She said peace‚ security and prosperity are a just solution of Palestine issue on the basis of Palestinian people’s right to self-determination is essential.
She called for an immediate end to the ongoing bloodshed by all sides in Syria in the interest of regional peace and stability.
The Foreign Minister called for collective efforts to address the issues of energy crisis‚ water shortage and environmental degradation.
