The Parliamentary Commission on creation of new provinces in Punjab has elected Farhatullah Babar as its Chairman on Tuesday. His name was forwarded to the body by Jamshed Dasti and Kamil Ali Agha.
Talking to the media persons after the meeting‚ Farhatullah Babar said the commission has representation from all the political parties and provinces and new provinces in Punjab will be created with consensus in accordance with the spirit of resolutions passed by the National and Punjab Assemblies.
Members of Pakistan Muslim League (N) did not attend the meeting. Babar appealed to the PML(N) to fully participate in the proceedings of the Commission.
He said the Commission’s meeting will again be held on Wednesday to frame code of conduct. In the light of those rules‚ forward movement will be made, he said.
MQM Leader Farooq Sattar said, “It is an historic occasion and we should not miss this opportunity to address the grievances of Southern Punjab.”
He said, “The Commission has been given one month time and we should make collective efforts to remove hurdles in the creation of new provinces.”
