The sixth death anniversary of slain Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti will be observed across Balochistan on Sunday (today).
Baloch nationalist groups have appealed for a complete strike in the entire province.
The Baloch Republican Party and the Jamhoori Watan Party have announced to observe “black day”, and a complete strike across the province to protest against Bugti’s death. The dissident Baloch leader was killed along with his companions during a military operation in the mountains of Kohlu district on August 26, 2006.
The strike call was supported by several parties including Baloch National Front, Balochistan National Party, National Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Balochistan traders’ organizations.
Several political parties will hold seminars; take out rallies and stage demonstrations in various parts of the province to pay tribute to Akbar Bugti.
Strict security arrangements have been made in the provincial capital and other parts of Balochistan to avert any untoward incident, as police backed by Frontier Corps (FC), Balochistan Constabulary, Levies Force and other law enforcement agencies would be deployed at all sensitive areas.
