Due to budget cuts and continuous shuffling of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, the expansion project of the only zoo in the federal capital is in doldrums.
The mega expansion project of Marghazar Zoo, which started in 2007, with a cost of more than Rs 1 billion had managed to complete only one phase out of 8.
Former CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari had planned to make the zoo a major attraction by modernizing it with the construction of a play land, hotel parks, safari parks, offices and mosque on the 23 acre land fixed for the zoo.
However with the transfer of Lashari, the project had been in doldrums due to budget cuts and corruption, thus depriving the citizens of cheap entertainment.
