Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday defended his statement in which he said that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah belonged to Shia Asnae Ashary school of thought, Dawn News reported.
Speaking on telephone to Shia scholars belonging to different parts of the country, he said he was ready to face those who think that he did not tell correct historical facts about Quaid-i-Azam’s faith. Hussain said he would happily accept the challenge of proving these facts legitimate. “I am a Sunni Muslim…but at the same time I believe that killing innocent people merely on basis of their religious beliefs is open injustice,” he added. Earlier in the week, Hussain said that Quaid-i-Azam belonged to Khoja Shia Asnae Ashary school of thought and when he died two separate funeral prayers had been offered, one led by Allama Shabbir Ahmed Usmani and the other by Shia Maulana Aneesul Hassan Rizvi. Speaking to Shia community in Lahore today, the MQM chief said he did not support Shias but innocents and vowed to continue raising his voice for righteous. He said he was against killings of innocent people due to any reason. The MQM chief said he was raising voice to end hatred, prejudices and would continue to do so without any fear of repercussions.
Quaid-e-Azam was ismaili.
Yes he was Aga-Khani (Ismaili) but later converted to Fiqh-e-Jafari AKA Shia Ithna Ashari AKA "believer of 12 Imams".
first of all you need to know that Ismaili are not Aga-Khani. Ismaili are also shia but they believe Hazarta Ismail was the Imam (S.O Haz. Jafir Sadiq)
You need to get your history correct. "Aga-Khanis" are one of the many branches of Ismailis. They do believe in the Imamah of Hazrat Ismail b. Jafar b. Muhammad b. Ali b. Hussain b. Ali. And they believe that the imamah continued in this lineage till their Aga Khan(s).
The other famous branch of Ismailis are the Bohras.
Jinnah belongs to the first branch and then other converted to Ithna Asheri (Khoja) i.e. Twelver Shias.
Later* converted to
Excuse me you illetrate!!!!! Ismaili are not shia…. It is a seperate religion… I am shia and i know better then you… Have you done PHD on our religion??? Give me prove that Ismaili are shia????
i second Haider. i hate it when stupid people try to state lies as facts with out having any knowledge.
"He said he was against killings of innocent people due to any reason."
hypocritical world we live in.
I wonder how he would respond to Karachi target killings.
Quaide Azam was a leader of muslims and other minorities of India, no one should bracket him with any sect and religion, he was far from such things, The personnel things about which Jinnah himself has not said, other should not make any comments or label any thing about Jinnah.
It is important to know what was the religious belief of our great founder of this beloved country. Looking at religious belief with sectarian short sighted approach is incorrect. The youngsters must study different school of thought of Islam. Knowledge base of Imam Ali is the correct and solid base of Islamic knowledge. Everyone must study and follow it correctly including Shias.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a leader of all Muslims of Pakistan . Its not correct information . Altaf has not a singal word knowledge about Muhammad Ali Jinnah..
The Problem lies in the historical origin and the evolution of the state…it was actually a migrant idea imported to alien ethnic groups which were emotionally rallied behind the slogan undermining the realities which with time expressed themselves in the state being dysfunctional because of the absence of the support of "nation". The term nation in Pakistan itself is quite controversial which instead of being constructed on the lines of modern nation-state has been vertically shaped/shaped from above in religious terminology. We have the same expression in its external orientation i.e. in it foreign policy for political and strategic spread in the region.Solution lies in that you have to trust people and respect multiplicity by the functional implementation of the rule of law which ensures peoples sovereignty in letter and spirit. Also it is peoples will that should be extended to other countries thereby creating what is called democracies never or rarely go to war and prefer trade and peace.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Fatima Jinnah were shia muslim.
Who cares what Quadi Azam's religous beleifes were. Does it matter if Quadi zam was sunni, shia, ismaili ?? How does it change our life today ?Let us focus on his message and vision of pakistan, that can certainly have positive impact on our society.
Pakistan today is in this sad position because of leaders like Altaf who focus on these non-issue items, pit one against others.
pakistan zindabad.
Every one is firm about his beliefs, so how one can be so careless about religious beliefs. Most of the sects of Islam donot have a strong base to stand on. Shia school of thought is well based and should be correctly understood. Pakistan is in bad shape today because its nationals are careless about this country. Destiny of this lies in our hands.
Altaf is right. Jinnah was shia on paper. Actually, he was non-practicing muslim with no interest in religion as far as his lifestyle was concerned. He used the name of Islam only for expediency. Does anyone think that our Holy Prophet PBUH would have approved his lifestyle?
Jinnah Saheb was a noble human being and only considered himself to be a muslim and never got involved in this sectarian divides. Altaf Hussain should stop this hype of whether he was a Shia or a Sunni. Had this been Jinnah's Pakistan there would never have been an ethnic party like the MQM headed by a British subject, nor a Lashkar e Jangvi, nor a Sunni Ittehad, neither other sectarian based political parties.
Whatever Jinnah's sect was, he stood up beyond his sectarian prejudices and extended hand of peace towards the people of tribal areas and tribesmen should also be appreciated who trusted him. Similarly all those who stood with Jinnah and his team for the creation of Pakistan deserve appreciation . Whatever Jinnah's sect was, he was a true liberal unlike pseudo liberals who try to use Jinnah for forwarding their social class and sectarian fascist agenda.
Jinnah Saheb was a human being, full stop.
Gandhee jee and Jinnah Saheb both made Himalya blunder in leading the movement to oust the Brits.
If the Brits were in control, things would not be so bad as we see in this fertile lands of great many rivers and immense opportunities.
🙂 now we will fight in this too that he was Shia or he was sunni .. but thanks God that he was a human being .. a normal Human being ..
Can Altaf Sab and we all stop to waste our time on deciding about some one faith there are lots of other problems which are more important in these days .. i feel sorry for our nation that we have enough time to discuss silly things that " Anda pehlay ayaa yaa murghi "
Allah Bless our nation …
I think we all knew that he was Ismaili a part of Shia if Altaf just repeated the fact why the sizzle goes through some ears we should appreciate him telling what some people dOn’t know may then they will hate and speak against shia killings.
What the fuck are we talking about. Where does Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah come in to all this. This stupid man Altaf Hussain has nothing else to do except create more issues.
Quaid e Azam gave us this country, he did not do it for Sunnis or Shias, he had a vision and he accomplished it. Whether he was a prasing or non practising muslim, shia sunni, all things are irrelevant. He wanted a just state wherein everyone was free to pray and to which ever God they want, he didnt want a theocratic stae where forced conversions take place, he didnt want a backward but a progressive state, which was at one time the largest Islamic country.
What we need to think about is that WHAT HAVE WE DONE THE COUNTRY HE GAVE US"
who ever Mr. Jinnah was but he gave us an independent country to live freely.
Errr,Altaf Bhai is coming to Pakistan soon to hold a protest in Islamabad. Right. .
