Independent judiciary vital for democracy: CJ

Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said on Saturday that independent judiciary was essential for democracy and that courts had the power to revoke any law.
During a law conference in Sukkur, the chief justice said that it was the judiciary’s responsibility to ensure that the government and other institutions followed the Constitution and did not waver from its fundamentals.
Moreover, he said that the constitution gave protection to the fundamental rights of the people and that the court was working for peace and stability in the society. He further said that the edifice of justice was sustaining through the cooperation between the bar and the bench.
He also expressed his concern over what he said were the falling standards of education in the country.
Chief Justice Iftikhar added that the law conference would also be beneficial for the resolution of various issues.

  1. judiciary cannot be free withiout SCP-CJP WITHIOUT NOW DISQULIFYING PRESIDENT FOR HIS POLITICAL,PARTISAN CONDUCT OF OFFICE FROM DAY ONE AND HE LET IT HAPPEN AND MADE HIM VIRTUAL KING.REST IS HIS LIP SEVICE AND CROCODILE TEARS.HE DARE NOT TOUCH PRESIDENT

  2. Chief Justice is concerned about the falling standards of education but not concerned for justice for the minorites. His role is more political than judicial.

    • Chief Justice remarks is absolutely correct but the worthy CJ is required to provide justice to the laymen and minorities in especial.

  3. It seems our judiciary like our media was not ready for freedom. With freedon comes lot of responsibility and …. "There is no Freedon without Limitations" it is a relative term; or else it becomes a free for all like the prevalent disgusting situation that makes us the laughing stock of the world.
