Pakistan on Thursday strongly protested against US drone strikes on its territory, calling the attacks “illegal” and a violation of international laws. In a brief statement, the Foreign Office said: “The US Embassy was today demarched on recent drone strikes in North Waziristan. A senior US diplomat was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and informed that the drone strikes were unlawful, against international law and a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.” The statement further said that “such attacks were unacceptable.”
The drones have struck at least four times in North Waziristan since August 18, reportedly killing some 20 suspected militants. Ten suspected militants were killed in two drone strikes in North Waziristan on August 19. Most of the attacks were carried out in the Shawal area.
