General Cadre Doctors Association (CDGA) President Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh on Thursday said that a comprehensive policy needs to be adopted in order to rectify the backlog in promotion of doctors.
While addressing a meeting held to review the problem of the service structure, he said that while the change in the percentage distribution formula of the GCDA doctors was helpful, it was by no means enough to correct the situation.
Special advisor to Punjab chief minister on health, Khawaja Salman Rafique also attended the meeting and said that the government has been playing a positive role to address the grievances of doctors and while a lot of progress has been made, the issue of the service structure needs a long term solution so this it would not arise again in the next decade. He said that in addition to revising the percentage distribution formula, the seniority list needs to be revised.
He added that the chief minister had sanctioned the creation of 1000 new posts in two hospitals of the city but had not mentioned that it includes reaffixed seats of grade 18 to 20. He further said that over 1000 new seats have been created over the last few years and the seats of grade 18 to 20 need to be reaffixed as per the existing formula and increased according to the new proposal.
Furthermore, Salman Rafique also that government has been working to resolve the issue of service structure, and all stakeholders will be taken on board before the final decision.
GCDA Secretary Dr Rana Rafique pointed out that the time scale promotion of GCD should be implemented for those who are already serving the nation, since it is unfair to give the new formula to new comers while those who had been serving the country for many years get no rewards for their work.
