Abidi’s ton helps Pak women beat Ireland


The Pakistan women cricket team defeated Ireland by 42 runs on D/L method in the Tri-Nation One Day series.
The win came Pakistan’s way thanks to Nain Abidi’s century. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first which proved to be a wise decision as the women in green piled up a total of 254 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Abidi registered her name in the record books as she became the first Pakistan woman to score a century against Ireland.
Ireland had to chase a shortened target of 224 runs in 39 overs but only managed to make 181 for the loss of 8 wickets. Irish opener Shillington top scored with 66 while Sana Mir led the Pakistan bowling attack with two wickets. Pakistan will play Bangladesh in its second match.

Nain Abidi’s maiden century for Pakistan

Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi became the first Pakistani player to score a century in women’s one day internationals. The right hand batswoman achieved this feat by making an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls with nine fours against Ireland women at Dublin on Tuesday (August 22). Pakistan’s first century in women’s one day internationals came in the 91st match. Mahewish Khan who made 69 off 72 balls with 10 fours against Netherlands women at Karachi on April 14,2001 held the previous record of highest individual score for Pakistan women in one day cricket. Nain Fatima’s previous highest score was 54 against Sri Lanka at Potchefstroom on October 10, 2010 and against Bangladesh at Dublin on August 20,2012. She made five of Pakistan’s 17 half centuries in women’s one dayers. Pakistan women made 254 for three in 50 overs in this match which was their third highest total after 277 for four in 50 overs against Netherlands at Fatullah on November 22,2011 and 258 for nine in 50 overs against Netherlands at Potchefstroom on October 9,2010.
