Supreme Court is discontent and annoyed over dismal law and order situation, abduction for ransom, forced disappearances and unrestrained display of arms in Balochistan.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary heard the suo motu case in his chamber in Balochistan High Court about the kidnapping of Dr Ghulam Rasool. President Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Zahoor Shahwani and Vice President Balochistan High Court Bar Association pursued the case on behalf of Dr Ghulam Rasool.
Advocate General Balochistan, Amanullah, Provincial Interior Secretary and Secretary for FATA, Naseebullah Baazai, and IG Balochistan Umer Khattab also appeared before the apex court.
During the hearing, provincial secretary for interior and matters relating to tribal areas, Naseebullah Baazai presented the report about the steps taken by the government for the recovery of the psychiatrist, Dr Ghulam Rasool.
Chief Justice showed dissatisfaction over the report and rejected it.
He remarked that not a single one of the kidnapped persons was ever recovered through the efforts of the government, and either their relatives had to pay heavy ransom to free them, or the influence of tribes made the recovery possible.
The Chief Justice said that being a resident of Balochistan, he was well aware of the fact that kidnappers and anti-social elements are unbridled there and there is nothing like law and order prevailing in the province.
He said no one is above law no matter how influential he is, adding that nobody will be allowed to take law in their hands.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary ordered Secretary Interior of Balochistan and IG of the province to take action against the unregistered vehicles and display of weapons in the province.
Afterwards, hearing of suo motu case of Dr Ghulam Rasool was adjourned till September 3.
