The Flood Warning Division on Wednesday issued a flood warning for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, as heavy rains and flood torrents resulted in the deaths of at least six people across the country. Heavy rains are predicted to lash parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and flood warnings for the next two days have been issued for Kohat, Bannu, Peshawar, Mardan and Hazara divisions.
People residing along Kabul, Kurrum and Swat rivers have been directed to be vigilant about rising water levels.
The Met Office said River Ravi was in low-level flood at Shahdara and could turn into a high-level flood in the next 24 hours.
Heavy rains are also predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad.
Meanwhile, at least three people were swept away as flash floods spurred by recent heavy downpours inundated several areas of Nowshera city on Wednesday.
The flash flood wreaked havoc across Nowshera, sweeping away several dozen animals with it. According to Azakhel police, two people were killed and dozens of animals swept away by gushing water in Azakhel, Pabbi and Pirpai villages after heavy rain lashed Nowshera on Wednesday. The dead were identified as Noorul Amin and Tahir Shah. The body of Noorul Amin has been found while search operation for the other victim was still underway.
The rain water entered houses after drains overflowed causing several walls and houses built of mud to collapse. The villages affected by heavy rains include Pirpai, Khat Kallay, Nowshera Kalan and Azakhel. In Rawalpindi, three children died when the wall of their house collapsed following heavy rain. Police said the wall of the dilapidated mud-stone house located in Kotli Sattiyan collapsed as a result of heavy rain the previous night. The three children were identified as Khaleeq, 14, Memoona, 12, and 4-year old Sana. Heavy rains also lashed other parts of the country, leaving torrents of water in its trail in several areas. Life was paralyzed in Sialkot after low-lying areas were submerged in water.
