Eid means happiness and Pakistanis have got thrice the happiness this year again. For a second time in recent history, Pakistanis are going to celebrate three Eids this year – one already been celebrated in parts of the Tribal Area on Saturday, one being celebrated today (Sunday) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while one to be celebrated tomorrow (Monday), per the official announcement of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman said on Saturday that the Shawwal moon could not been sighted across the country, therefore, Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across the country tomorrow (August 20).
However, like every year, the country appeared to be in complete disharmony over the decision, as the Peshawar Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee rejected the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s claims and said they would celebrate Eid today (Sunday) after receiving as many as 18 evidences of the Shawwal moon’s sighting across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Following the Zonal Committee’s announcement, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government made an official announcement that Eid would be celebrated across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today (Sunday). The Peshawar Zonal Committee said it wanted to inform the Central Committee of receiving evidence of the moon’s sighting but the committee adjourned its moon sighting session much earlier than expected.
KP Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour said the Central Committee did not accept the evidence forwarded by the Zonal Committee.
Eids are being celebrated left right and centre across the country.
Earlier in the evening on Saturday, the Charsadda Police on directives of the district government had arrested a cleric who announced Eidul Fitr in certain areas of Charsadda on Saturday.
Certain areas of Charsadda celebrated Eidul Fitr on Saturday, a day before Saudi Arabia, following a late night sighting of the Shawwal moon by Barelvi sect clerics. The arrested cleric has been identified as Lal Rehman.
Tribesmen in a specific pocket of North Waziristan also observed Eidul Fitr on Saturday in accordance with the fatwa (edict) of Maulana Gul Baas Khan belonging to the village of Khedarkhel of Mirali sub division.
But a majority of the dwellers, especially occupants of government installations from Miranshah headquarter of North Waziristan, did not follow the edict of Maulana Gul Baas Khan which was also endorsed by another religious figure, Maulana Gul Naseeb associated with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl. Addressing a press conference after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s meeting, Mufti Muneeb said no credible testimonies of sighting of the moon were received from provincial capitals, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta, therefore Eid would fall tomorrow (Monday).

The people of Hazara will celebrate Eid on Monday along with a majority of the country, according to Baba Haider Zaman, chief of the Tehreek-e-Hazara.
Pakistan Meteorological Department had said there was no chance of moon sighting in the country on Saturday.
The chief meteorological officer said that although it was the committee’s discretion to announce sighting of the moon but according to Met office it was highly unlikely that the moon could be seen on Saturday.
The Met office said the moon’s age should be 30 hours for sighting but it would only be 22-hours-old on Saturday and would not be seen in Pakistan.
Celebrating Eids on separate days has become somewhat of a tradition in Pakistan. In year 2009, the country had celebrated three Eids as the people of the Tribal Areas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of mainland Pakistan celebrated Eids on separate days.
The trend has been a repeat occurrence ever since.

  1. Christians celebrate Christmas on different dates. While Western nations celebrate it on 25 Dec., Russian orthodox and some others celebrate it in January. No one makes it a matter of prestige.

  2. The then Chief Minister of the the Frontier Province on the Independence Day in 1948 refused to salute the Flag of Pakistan. The English Governor sacked him and his cabinet on the spot. This CM was Dr.Khan Sahib of ANP. It is again ANP not accepting the writ of Pakistan.

    • No need to politicize the issue. Muslims all over the world are celebrating eid on sunday including europe!

      • Dont speak if you dont know.Eid was not celebrated on Sunday all over the world or Europe. And learn the difference between politics and treachery.

  3. The so called regilious leaders (?????) cause to divide the nation even on most sacred festivities and do not let the nation to celebrate commectivetly. That's the reason their sermons have no affect at all and common man on the street dis-likes them. Legislation on such matters is the need of hour, with punishable violation.
