Pakistan has said that its nuclear assets are secure and nobody needs to worry about the safety of its nuclear installations.
In a media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesman Muazzam Khan said that the command and control system of Pakistan’s nuclear assets was every effective.
Responding to a question on the remarks by the US defense secretary that Pakistan’s nuclear assets could fall into the hands of extremists‚ the FO spokesman said the world should not have concerns about safety of Pakistan’s nuclear assets. He said that elaborate measures were in place to secure them.
The spokesman said that no foreign troops would be “allowed to conduct operation into our territory”.
He said that it was a matter of Pakistan’s sovereignty, and “we have made it clear from the day one that fighting extremism and terrorism on our territory remains Pakistan’s responsibility.”
To another question‚ the spokesman said that Pakistan and the United States were continuing engagement on various fronts, including economic‚ security and political. About cross-border incursions on Pakistan-Afghanistan border‚ he said the two countries were holding talks on the issue, and that Pakistan was also engaging ISAF to stop cross-border incursions.
