Eid shopping has gained momentum with every passing day. Markets and bazaars have witnessed a crowd of customers and clogged roads as people gear up for Eid. Families have been busy buying ready-to-wear garments as well as shoes and accessories. Makeshift stalls of henna and bangles that have sprung up across the city are drawing big crowds of women and children.
Anarkali bazaar, Liberty Market, Mall Road, Azam Market, Firdous Market, Bagwanpura Bazar, main Bazar Ichra, Moon Market, Kareem Block Market, Barkat Market, Main Market, Ghalib Market and other posh bazars draw crowds with only five days remaining before Eid.
“Bano Bazar, Anarkali” could be consider the busiest market in the provincial capital as this traditional market offers biggest collection of bangles, henna and other Eid related items for women and children.
With the Eid excitement comes a horde of beggars hounding citizens outside of every market and on major roads, as the beggars try to make the most of people’s charitable mood in the last days of Ramadan.
Karachi too has witnessed the peak of the shopping season. Eid shopping has increased manifold in different markets including Clifton, Old City Area, Jubilee Cloth Market, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Haideri Market, Saddar, Defence, Tariq Road and other areas.
Traders have expressed hope that night shopping in other localities of the city will soon start.
However, they also showed dismay over the rising cases of extortions at markets by outlaws, saying this year there has been at least three-fold increase in extortion compared to last year.
