Parking contractors double charges at their own freewill

The parking contractor in Commercial Market has doubled the parking fee taking the benefits of shopping spree before the Eid days.
Many people complain that the contractor is charging Rs 20 per vehicle instead of Rs 10. When people argued why the rate has been doubled, the contractor held the district municipal authorities responsible for this. Atif Aslam, a person who came to the market for shopping, said they have fixed their own rates. They are charging different fees from different people for parking their vehicles in the market.
It is pertinent to mention here that parking fee receipts are not printed rather these are in hand written form. A brawl between the contractor’s workers and people is also a routine matter on the issue of overcharging. Shakeel Ahmed said he cannot understand why the authority has doubled parking fee. He pointed out that the contractor, after issuing a receipt, does not take responsibly for protecting the vehicles from being stolen as written on the back of it that the contractor will not be held responsible for theft of any vehicle. He is only receiving parking fee. Owner should protect his vehicle by himself, Shakeel added.
When asked, the contractor said it has been written on the receipts that they are not responsible for the parked vehicles. Kamran Khan questioned the municipal authorities if the contractor is not taking the responsibility of the parked vehicles, why he is charging fee from the people.
