Despite imposition of Section 144 in the capital, open sale of fireworks was witnessed on the Independence Day under the supervision of the police.
The police ordered an operation against manufacturers, sellers and retailers of fireworks material and its products, but in vain.
The administration had directed all the police stations and the authorities concerned to confiscate explosive materials and take stern action against the violators besides registering cases against the vendors as well as buyers.
However, the police officials failed to control the sale of fireworks and seal the factories manufacturing such items.
Meanwhile, Dhok Ratta, Narankari Bazaar, Gawalmandi, Mohanpura and Ghazni Road are the main areas where fireworks items are prepared in Rawalpindi.
The fireworks products were sold at a large number of places and were easily available in the city while the police failed to control such activities and open sale of fireworks was witnessed on August 13 and 14 despite imposition of Section 144 in this regard.
