Nisar says no dialogue with government on caretaker set up

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said no dialogue was going on with the government on the caretaker set up and he would propose two names for the prime minister’s slot after Eidul Fitr.
Talking to reporters at the Punjab House, Nisar said the role of the government for the caretaker set up had become secondary, and the opposition was neither in touch with the government politically nor was there any need for it. He said it was of no use holding dialogue with a government that did not honor its commitment.
Nisar said after the passage of the 20th Amendment, the government had no role in the appointment of a caretaker set up and a final decision had gone to the Election Commission. He said the government was giving statements in this connection only to save its credibility.
Clarifying the position, he said under the constitution, talks were possible between the government and opposition about the caretaker set up after the dissolution of the assembly. He referred to the violation of agreements and promises by the government and said in a situation when the government was in confrontation with the Supreme Court, corruption was at its peak and load shedding has made the life of the people miserable, the opposition would not negotiate with the government and hurt the feelings of the masses. The opposition leader said the PML-N would hold talks about the caretaker prime minister but only with the opposition parties and the two names to be proposed would have the confidence of the nation.
Nisar expressed serious concern over reports of a new military operation in North Waziristan. He demanded the military leadership to take back the decision for military operation, saying the COAS was right to say that no operation could succeed without people’s cooperation. The leader of the opposition feared that there would be a new wave of terrorism if the operation was launched in NWA and his party would not support such an action.
Nisar said he would hold a press conference after Eid and expose attempts by President Asif Ali Zardari to purchase media channels and senior journalists to use them during elections.
He said the president had no constitutional powers to extend the tenure of present assembly by one year.
