As many as 38 world records were set or equalled in the London Olympic Games. The world record were set or equalled in Athletics, Cycling, Shooting, Swimming, Rowing, Archery and Weightlifting, compared 43 world records in eight disciplines at Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, 33 world records in six disciplines at Athens in 2004, 37 world records in five disciplines in the 2000 Olympic Games at Sydney and 26 world records in five disciplines in Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. The highest number of world records at London Olympics were set in Cycling (10). Nine world records each were established in Swimming and Weightlifting. Four world records were broken in Athletics. The other world record were established in Rowing (1), Archery (2) and Shooting (3). The most of the records were set by Great Britain (8) followed by China (7), United States (6) and Russia (four). Kazakhastan set three and South Korea two new records while New Zealand, South Africa,North Korea, Hungary, Belarus, Italy, Kenya and Jamaica established on record each.
