The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday night organised a colourful event here at F-9 Fatima Jinnah Park in connection with celebrations of the Independence Day. The fireworks display greatly attracted the people. A simple but attractive ceremony was also held at which famous singers presented national songs. Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira was the chief guest on the occasion, who appreciated the efforts of the CDA and its chairman Farkhand Iqbal for holding this colourful ceremony. A large number of people thronged the park along with families to witness the fireworks display. The CDA chairman, speaking on the occasion, said the authority had made comprehensive arrangements to celebrate the Independence Day in the capital. The colourful event in the Fatima Jinnah Park marked with display of the fireworks was attended by hundreds of thousands of people from Islamabad and other areas of the country, which reflects national unity, he added. He added that all the major buildings of the capital had been illuminated and the roads decorated with banners, streamers and other material, reflecting the national integrity and jubilation. He said the Independence Day calls for a commitment to work with more dedication and passion for making Pakistan a modern welfare state. He stated that the CDA management was focusing on revolutionary measures to make Islamabad a load shedding-free city by setting up a big powerhouse.
