5 killed in violence; two killers arrested

Another five people have been shot dead in different areas of the city during the past 24 hours. Police sources said on Monday that the latest incident occurred in Lines Area where unidentified miscreants shot a man to death. Two brothers, police officers by profession– ASI Sher Dad and Muneer Dad, were injured in a firing incident in Landhi. They were rushed to hospital. However, Sher Dad could not sustain his injuries and passed away during his treatment. A man, Arif Qadri lost his life in firing incident near New Karachi area of Power House Chowrangi.
Meantime, two groups entered in armed clash in Pahalwan Goth, where a man was killed and another was injured. A firing incident in North Nazimabad claimed the life of yet another person, identified as Aurangzeb.
Meanwhile, two men allegedly involved in 35 target killings were also arrested in the city.
On a tip off, police conducted a raid in Maripur locality and arrested a suspected target killer, Abdul Hamid alias CIA Wala, SSP West Amir Farooqi said.
One Kalashnikov, a repeater and a pistol were recovered from the suspect’s possession.
The police said the suspect was involved in the murder of 25 people including PPP leader Eidi Amin. The accused is a member of Razzaq Commando Group.
In a separate raid, police apprehended another suspected target killer from Saudabad. The accused, identified as Zafar alias Ganja, was involved in more than 10 incidents of target killings.
According to the police, the accused is an activist of a political party. He was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogations.
In yet in another incident, a large shoe warehouse located in Hyderi Market caught fire early on Monday morning, however it was brought under control after hectic efforts.
The fire brigade squad sources said the fire reduced to ashes the shoes worth million of rupees and other merchandise stocked at the storage.
The firefighters said the blaze was caused by short circuit malfunction, according to the preliminary report. The fire fighter extinguished the fire after hectic efforts.
