Rain fails to dazzle, water level in rivers falls by 40 percent

Due to fall in temperature, flow of water in rivers has decreased by 40 percent, a private tv news channel reported.
The two largest water reservoirs in the country Tarbela and Mangla dams may not reach their maximum water level leading to the power crisis worsening and a hindrance in the growing of crops. According to the Indus Water System Authority, temperature has fallen by 22C in Skirdu and other Northern Areas, causing fall in flow of water in Sindh and Jhelum by 40 percent. Lack of rain is being attributed to the low water levels at these dams. These dams also receive water from snow which melts on the mountains of the Northern Areas but that has also drastically decreased this year. According to predictions the maximum water level at Tarbela dam this year will be 1,510 feet while it was expected to be 1,180 feet at Mangla dam. With such low water levels farmers will have difficulty in growing their crops leading to a potential food shortage.
