The Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said on Sunday that the PU would fully support all students with special needs for pursuing higher studies up to PhD free of cost while talking to a delegation of special students led by their patron-in chief Dr Waqar Chaudary.
He said that the heads of faculties and deans of various departments had already been directed to facilitate students with special needs.
He added that special students who attain academic excellence would be absorbed against vacant seats on merit through proper advertisement and selection board in different teaching and administrative departments against a two per cent special quota earmarked by the government.
He further added that all special students studying in different faculties of the PU had already been completely exempted from all sorts of fees including admission, departmental and examination fees with immediate effect.
Dr Mujahid said that all eligible and deserving special students would also be awarded scholarships without any hurdles. He directed higher authorities of the varsity that all genuine problems being faced by the special students must be addressed on top priority.
The VC also announced free of cost travelling for all special students in varsity transport operating on different city routes.
Shamas-ul-Zia, Malik Muhammad, Nadeem Aslam Arain, Shahzad Gulnar, Sarfaraz Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Shakil, Muhammad Saleem, Usman Ali Atari and other special students present on the occasion thanked the VC for his efforts to resolve their problems.
Briefly speaking on the occasion, gold medalist Shamas-ul-Zia said that special students possessed immense talent and potential and could play a key role in every sphere of national development.
