Govt fighting poverty through BISP: Khosa

Punjab Governor Latif Khosa attended a money distribution ceremony organized by the Benazir Income Support Program’s (BISP) Waseela-e-Haq scheme at the Governor’s House on Saturday. During the ceremony, 282 women heads of deserving families from Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions were awarded cheques of Rs 150,000 each. He said that the present government was engaged in fighting terrorism with the support of the army while combating poverty through initiatives such as BISP. The governor said that the provision of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan” (food, clothing and shelter) was the agenda of the ruling party. He lauded the efforts of BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja for winning international acknowledgement for the “transparent and effective mechanism adopted by the BISP” for its operations. He added that the Hilal-e-Imtiaz given to Farzana by the president of Pakistan was proof of her excellent service for BISP. In her speech, Farzana said that BISP had become a leading program in a short span of four years from among 44 countries which had launched similar initiatives.
