Pakistan has raised objections against India’s plans of building a power plant on the River Chenab. According to a private television channel, India had presented blueprints of the project to Pakistani authorities in June this year, which Pakistan returned to India after raising certain objections. Pakistan has returned the file to the Indian Commissioner Sindh Taas Oranga Nath.
In a letter addressed to Oranga Nath, Pakistan has requested India not to start work on the ‘Meyar Project’ without addressing Pakistan’s reservations against it. Pakistani authorities raised objections to plans of diverting a Chenab River tributary, constructing a 25 feet high wall around the lake and raising its bed to 770 feet height. The project aims to produce 120MW electricity. According to the plan construction work on this project was to be started in October this year.
