Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab was brought face-to-face with Abu Jundal, the Indian Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) handler of the attacks, at the Arthur Road jail on Thursday.
The two were questioned about the attacks, the plot and the training imparted to the attackers. According to sources, Kasab and Jundal identified each other. Kasab admitted that Jundal had taught him Hindi and that he (Jundal), along with top LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, was present at Muridke in 2008. The questioning began at 6pm and ended at 7.30pm. The crime branch had, last week, asked the state government for permission to question Kasab on the revelations made by Jundal. The permission was granted on Thursday.
According to sources, the crime branch wanted to verify the claims made by Jundal. The crime branch had also prepared a detailed questionnaire for Kasab, they said. They plan to study the differences and discrepancies in the accounts of the two men about the planning and execution of the 26/11 attacks. During his questioning, Jundal had allegedly told the police how the 26/11 terror attacks were planned. He had allegedly revealed that he got involved in the planning in August 2008 and also named Kasab and the other operatives. The central agencies had intercepted Jundal’s voice when he was giving instructions to two terrorists at the Chhabad House. They will compare it with his recent voice sample.
