The Supreme Court Wednesday summoned detailed report of the recovered Adiyala jail prisoners during the proceedings of the missing prisoners’ case. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the proceedings of the case. Tariq Asad, who is counsel of the petitioner, stated that it was being said that the missing prisoners were under trial according to the army act but later it was accepted that their trial could not take place under the army act.
He stated that it had now been proven that the missing prisoners had been in custody for the last 18 to 20 months. The condition of seven recovered prisoners was very serious and they could to die too like the other prisoners. Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that the matter would be examined with cool mindedness and the court would not enter into the game of feelings and emotions. He stated that it was the duty of the court to decide according to the constitution and laws. The chief justice ordered Raja Irshad, counsel for agencies, to collect evidences against the prisoners. Later, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the case till Thursday (today).
