In a bid to get rid of hours long and unprecedented electricity load shedding, the first ever energy conference under the auspices of ruling Awami National Party will be held at Peshawar on Thursday. Earlier, the ANP high command announced that it would hold an All Parties Conference which would deal with the energy crisis and load shedding amongst other issues but other major political forces expressed their reservations and announced a boycott; therefore, it was relabeled Energy Conference.
The ANP high level leaders are in close contacts with their counterparts from Pakistan Muslim League(N), Jamaat Islami, Jamiat Ul Ulema Islam(F) and Pakistan Tehrik Insaaf for attending the schedule event. Arbab Tahir, ANP Provincial General Secretary, said that besides representatives and leadership of various political parties, a number of experts have been invited. Such experts will brief the participants about the potential for hydro power projects and thermal projects in this province. Similarly, a number of investors have also been invited so that they can express their interest to invest in any possible projects. Arbab Tahir said that the conference, by taking all stakeholders on board, aimed to come up with solid proposals for countering the energy crises. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to announce an emergency plan for curtailing the hours long electricity load shedding issue in the province. Beside representatives and leaders of various political parties, active parliamentarians from the Senate, National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have also been invited to the event.
