The chief justice, who was heading the three-member bench hearing the case on Ogra’s malpractices, quizzed the deputy prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding the failure to arrest Tauqeer Sadiq, former chief of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) since the issuance of an arrest warrant against him in May as he remained an absconder and deserved no concession.
The deputy prosecutor general of NAB told the court that Sadiq was hiding in Punjab and the provincial government was providing protection to an absconder and IG Punjab Police was not co-operating with regards to conduct the arrest.
In his remarks, Justice Jawad S. Khawaja said that corruption amounting to Rs60 billion had taken place in the OGRA but not a single penny was recovered and the country should not be exploited this way.
