A religious scholar, Maulana Shoaib said that the minimum amount of Sadaqa-e-Fitr or Fitrana has been fixed at Rs 80 per person this year. Fitrana is paid as money or in kind to the poor before the occassion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The amount has been fixed at Rs 80 according to the market price of 2.23 kilograms of flour.
People who want to pay Fitrana equal to the price of barley, dates and other edibles, should pay Rs 220, Rs 1,120 and Rs 1,600 per head respectively.
Every adult Muslim must pay Zakat-ul-Fitr before Eid prayers if they possess excess food. The amount is also paid for people who are dependent on a single bread winner within a household.
