The Capital Development Authority has temporarily relaxed its anti-encroachment drive to facilitate residents of the federal capital during Eid shopping. Vendors, shopkeepers, and stall holders would display Eid-specific items outside their shops to attract customers.
CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal told agencies on Sunday that the decision was taken on the request of shopkeepers who wanted to erect outdoor stalls.
He said that the number of customers was increasing as Eid neared, and the relaxation in anti-encroachment drive was important to facilitate buyers. He added that only the stalls selling Ramazan and Eid items were allowed to encroach on footpaths.
He further stated that the stalls would be cleared out immediately after Eid to maintain the beauty of Islamabad city.
In the past few weeks, the CDA had launched a drive against encroachments in the city on the directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
According to the chairman, all footpaths would be completely purged of encroachments in the final stages of the strategy. He added that the Enforcement Directorate of the department would be strengthened to achieve the goals set by CDA.
