Claiming that Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa is still a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the party’s president Nawaz Sharif said that the veteran politician had only resigned as senior adviser to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and was retaining his basic membership. Nawaz told reporters that there are differences between members of every party and he still respects Zulfiqar Khosa. However, sources said that the PML-N leadership had decided to rope in Amjad Farooq Khosa, an independent member of the Punjab Assembly and cousin of Zulfiqar Khosa, to contest the elections in the Khosa’s home constituency. The growing rift between Zulfiqar Khosa and Shahbaz Sharif was confirmed by his son Dost Muhammad Khosa, who on Friday also resigned from PML-N’s basic party membership. Dost Muhammad Khosa lashed out against the PML-N leadership, alleging that Shahbaz Sharif was behind the case registered against him for allegedly murdering his ex-wife Sapna Khan, and publication of reports that he had taken away expensive furniture while vacating his official residence in 2011. Khosa told reporters that Shahbaz Sharif had involved him in a fake murder case to “hide his (CM’s) inefficiency”. He criticized Shahbaz for keeping 20 portfolios, saying the Punjab government was a one-man show.
