HEAVY RAIN BRINGS HAPPINESS AND MISERY

There are reports of heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi division‚ Islamabad and Kashmir during the last 24 hours. A Met office spokesman told Radio Pakistan Saturday morning that Islamabad had so far received 139 millimeter‚ Rawalpindi 75‚ Murree 62 and Muzaffarabad 59 millimeter rain. More rain and thundershower is likely in upper and central parts of Punjab‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
The Met office forecasted more rainfall across the country. The Meteorological Department has announced on Saturday that more showers are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Kashmir.
Two children died while four were injured in roof collapse in Gulraiz area of Rawalpindi as a heavy rain lashed the twin cities. Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi while people are using alternative route to reach the airport. More rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Kashmir, upper and lower parts of KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
The highest temperature in the country was recorded at 47 degrees in Dilbadayn.
The people of low-lying areas are not satisfied with the arrangements to avert flood-like situation and demanded affective measures to clean the nullahs.
These people are spending restlessness nights and fearing possible flood in nullah Leh. Arya Mohallah, Nadeem Colony, Javed Colony, Muslim Colony, Amarpura, Ferozepura, Kartarpura, Bohar Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Murree Road Underpass, Waris Khan Chowk, Sadiqabad, Rasheed Colony, Mukha Singh Estate, Rahimabad, Dhoke Elahi Baksh and other low-lying areas are always badly affected due to encroachments and lack of cleanliness.
The Rawalpindi city district government has completed all the arrangements to tackle the possible flood in Leh Nullah during the monsoon season. The area along the Nullah Leh has been divided into four sectors where emergency flood centres have been set up, to be controlled from the office of the district coordination officer and the centres have been made operational to cope with any emergency.
“These centres will operate round the clock to meet any eventuality,” Executive District Officer (Municipal Services) Imtiaz Malik said while addressing a meeting to review arrangements in view of the coming monsoon season. Imtiaz Malik asked the staff concerned to remain vigilant as no negligence will be tolerated at any cost.
