National Assembly Standing Committee on Water and Power has taken a serious note of unscheduled load-shedding and said that the commitment of exempting Sehar and Iftar timings from load-shedding has not been honored.
A committee meeting was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and attended by members and senior officials from the Ministry of Water and Power.
The committee censured the Ministry for removing the ex-chairman of HESCO Board of Directors unlawfully and said that the new Chairman had not been appointed on merit. The Secretary negated the views of the members and said that the proper procedure had been followed in the appointment of the new Chairman however the allegation will still be forwarded to SECP for further clarification.
On the issue of not following scheduled load-shedding timings, the Secretary of Water and Power said that disruption occurred because of a severe thunder storm in the Muzaffargarh area and caused a shutdown of Chashma I and 2, however 70% of the electricity had been restored and efforts would be made not to carryout unscheduled load-shedding during Ramadan.
