Chitral admin cracks down on youths joining Afghan army

In accordance with instructions from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the administration in Chitral initiated action against those people locals who were recruited in the Afghanistan National Army or by in the Afghan Police.
Through some highly-placed official sources, Pakistan Today came to know on Friday that soon after getting receiving instructions from the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, the district administration arranged in an emergency meeting.
Beside high- ranking civil officers, the meeting was also attended by senior officials of the Chitral Police, Levies and secret agencies. The meeting discussed in depth the issue, pertaining ed to the recruitments of Chitral Youths in the Afghanistan National Army and other law enforcement agencies. The official sources said the meeting decided to establish contacts with the community and families as well from where the youths had joined the Afghan National Army.
In the first phase, such families would be requested to ask the youths to return otherwise all of their official perks and privileges could be withdrawn. Similarly, the government departments would be directed to stop social and utility services to such families and communities. The Chitral District Administration had earlier collected details of such Afghan youths a year ago.
When contacted, the officials in Chitral said a year- and -a –half ago, the administration received reports regarding some of the youths being recruited in the Afghanistan National Army.
The administration in this respect issued notices to those people. and Seven of them haved quit the services and returned to their villages . Bbut some of them are were still associated with the Afghan armed forces and other law enforcing agencies. In response to a question, the official said the number of locals people recruited in the Afghanistan National Army might be from 15 to 20. However, he said the administration was in contact with the elders and community leaders for their return.
“The administration has already directed local civil administration and personnel of law enforcement and secret agencies for suspending all official privileges to these people and take action against them accordingly. The official, however, said now they were going to conduct another survey to confirm who was reports of who was recruited in the Afghan National aArmy. He said people living along the Pak-Afghan border in Chitral district were always getting benefits from both countries.
