National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-provincial Coordination has expressed displeasure on the performance of Ministry of Petroleum and directed it to re-appoint employees of Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited (OGDCL).
About 356 employees of OGDCL were sacked back in 1991. Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain asked his ministry to give complete details about sacking of the former employees.
Meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-provincial Coordination presided by Mir Ahmedan Khan Bugti was held in Parliament House Friday.
Federal minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr Asim Hussain, Members of National Assembly including Sardar Umar Gorgage, Syed Nasir Ali Shah, Haji Roz-ud-Din, Surriya Asghar, Gul Muhammad Jakhrani, Dr Muhammad Ayub Sheikh, Qudsia Arshad, Dr Araish Kumar and Managing Director OGDCL, Masood Siddiqui attended the meeting.
Managing Director OGDCL, Masood Siddiqui told the standing committee that a new procedure for hiring of employees would be introduced after the Eid under which human resource will be inducted in the organization on merit.
At present OGDCL is bearing the burden of more than 3000 extra employees and the organization, instead of firing them, is considering getting them into use by widening the scope of business, he added.
The committee also showed concern over not fulfilling the jobs on double-quota basis and not appointing any General Manager in OGDCL hailing from Balochistan, despite repeated recommendations of the committee.
National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter-provincial Coordination also noted that unemployment prevails in Dera Bugti, Balochistan and this issue should be solved on priority basis.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain assured the committee that utmost efforts will be made to resolve these issues and gave directions to the high-ups on the spot.
The committee brought into account the development funds given to the MPAs from Balochistan and recommended that the Chief Minister Balochistan and Chief Secretary of Balochistan give a detailed briefing to the committee in this regard.
Look who is heading the ministry of petroleum. A man who by profession is a doctor and knows nothing about the technology of petroleum and gas. He is purely a yes man of A-Z and devoted disciple of Altaf Hussain.
He is in the same category as Rehman Malik and Babar Ghauri. What could you expect from Rehman Malik who just issues orders but never accomplished. He is liar par excellence. Dr Asim is slightly better than Rehman Malik but is definitely an unmitigated disaster for the PPP government.
