The Punjab Police killed a suspected Taliban militant near Multan on Wednesday, officials said. According to police officials, a team of Crime Investigation Department (CID) intercepted a vehicle near Ghazi Ghat near Dera Ghazi Khan on Wednesday afternoon. Officials said the car driver tried to detonate the suicide vest he was wearing, but police opened fire and killed him on the spot. Officials further said that a team of Bomb Disposal Squad was called from Multan to defuse his suicide vest and to clear his bag which cops believed was full of hand grenades and other weapons. Police believe the deceased militant belonged to the Matiullah group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
