At least 30 shops and three houses were burnt to ashes due to fire in main Bazaar of Chilas on late Wednesday night.
According to details, on Wednesday-Thursday midnight, fire initiated due to an electric short circuit in a timber godown located in Chilas Bazaar, Diamer district which engulfed the surrounding shops. Wind and dry wood added fuel to the fire and it spread rapidly.
Fire brigades, police and local residents reached the scene and started efforts to extinguish the fire. However, due to shortage of fire engines, as only one fire engine was available at night time and limited resources, people have to face hardships to put off the wild fire.
After hours of hectic efforts of local population and fire brigade, the raging flames brought under control. Meanwhile, 30 shops and three houses were gutted causing millions of rupee losses.
