The Interpol headquarters rejected Pakistan’s request to issue a red warrant against former president and army chief Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case.
The Interpol rejected the request on the grounds that Pakistani authorities and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had sent insufficient documentation for the purpose of issuing a red warrant.
According to a statement issued by the Interpol, it could not issue red warrant based on the evidences and documentation offered for the arrest of the former president. Local authorities have again sent a request to the Interpol director with documentation in addition to the investigation reports, copies of statements by then director-general of ISI’s counter-intelligence wing Javed Iqbal Cheema and the former director general of Intelligence Bureau, Ejaz Shah, US-based journalist Marc Siegel’s email to Benazir Bhutto and copies of the orders issued by the Anti-Terrorism Court.
On the other hand the extradition request sent to the British government was also rejected earlier on the grounds that the two countries have no formal extradition treaty between them.
Musharraf is an accused in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case. The Anti-Terrorism Court had declared Musharraf an absconder and ordered to freeze his assets.
The arrest warrant was issued by the ATC in the light of FIA’s challan in the case of suicide attack on Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi in 2007 and due to Pervez Musharraf’s continued absence from attending court proceedings.
The FIA had sent the arrest warrant of Pervez Musharraf to Interpol along with evidences, especially revelations by a foreign journalist and a copy of the former president’s email sent to Bhutto, seeking the issuance of red warrants from the Director of Interpol, Pakistan.

  1. Those aren't evidence, those are personal wishes from Zardari,@grazar,right on.In the real world, you need to have solid evidence in order to convict someone, kind a like what they have against Zardari hahahahaha, but he enjoys immunity I guess. She was warned several times to not go out in the open that day,she refused.I'm not taking Musharaf's side but how are you suppose t protect one person from hundreds of thousands specially if you are a sitting duck.

  2. The entire PPP government functionaries including the President, PM, interior minister and all cabinet ministers owe an apology to the nation for this debacle duly exposed by the Interpol regarding providing Interpol insufficient documents to arrest Musharraf. In fact, the intentions of the PPP government were clearly exposed when Musharraf was accorded warm welcome and full protocol dinner etc., by Pakistan's Ambassador in China, when he recently visited there after the request of the government to Interpol to arrest him. Firstly, the government gave guard of Honour and now full official protocol to Musharraf and it thinks that they can fool all the people all the time. PPP leadership wants to have cake and eat ot too. No sir it's not possible.

    • Your comments smell of hatred against PPP and hidden wish to convict Musharaf. Presiednt Musharaf is the only leader of Pakistan enjoying great respect amongst Russian, Chinese, Arabs, Americans, Europeans, Turks, malaysian and where ever he goes. All the well wishers of Pakistan are unable to understand the behaviour of Pakistani nation. Musharaf is the only leader who inspite of sitting out side has helped his nation UnLike others who have worked against Pakistan. His point of View has been welcomed and people pay him 100 of Thousand Dollars to just hear his views. Naturally Illiterates can not digest that and live in fools paradise of wish full thinking. World has its own rules and would not behave according to the emotional Mania of Pakistanis.
