Farooq Awan’s appointment as Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman has been confirmed on the directives of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, according to the monitoring sources.
Sources said, Awan confirmed his appointment as chairman on specified terms and conditions.
Farooq Awan is replacing Dr Muhammad Yasin whose appointment was not extended, according to some sources, partly because of the 3G licenses auction failure.
Awan was serving as secretary to the Ministry of Information Technology before his appointment as PTA chairman.
Awan is taking over PTA leadership at a time when the industry is facing enormous issues including tax evasion worth Rs47 billion, Rs50 billion dues non-payment auction of 3G licenses and several others.
