Short circuit fire kills 5 in Garhi Shahu

At least five people were killed and eight others sustained serious burn injuries, when a fire erupted at the Kohinoor TV building during Monday’s Sehar transmission in Garhi Shahu, Lahore.
According to media reports, the fire broke out because of a short circuit. The Rescue-1122 team reported that the fire broke out suddenly at the TV station and engulfed the whole office instantly. As a result about 12 persons present in the office sustained serious burn injuries. The Rescue-1122 teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital, where four persons including three ‘Naat Khawans’ succumbed to burn injuries. The deceased were identified as Qaisar, Salman, Hanif and Abu Bakar.
This was the second incident of this sort to take place this week. On Sunday an office at the Dyal Singh Mansion had caught fire due to a short circuit. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took serious notice of this and constituted a committee to probe the fire incidents and present a report with in 24 hours.
District Coordination Officer Noor-ul-Amin Mengal ordered to seal the building. He expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and prayed for peace to the departed souls. He directed to arrest the owners of the building for ignoring safety precautions and urged commercial building owners to adopt safety measures through intensified checking of electric wiring and short circuiting.
The DCO issued directions to relevant government departments to survey and identify such dangerous buildings, to avoid any horrible incident in future.
