The ill-fated citizens of the country are likely to get another blow in the month of Ramadan, as the Oil and Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Monday recommended an increase in the prices of petroleum products by Rs 4.49 to Rs 7.73 per litre from August 1. Sources said it was proposed in a summary dispatched to the Ministry of Petroleum, adding that the summary also stated that the prices would have to be increased if levy on petroleum products was not lifted. According to the summary, the price of petrol was recommended to be increased by Rs 7.67 per litre, Hi-Octane by Rs 7.73 per litre, Hi-speed diesel by Rs 4.58 per litre, light diesel by Rs 5.31 per litre and the price of kerosene oil by Rs 4.49 per litre. The sources said OGRA would notify the hike after he summary’s final approval in consultation with the ministries of Petroleum and Finance. The price of CNG will also be increased by Rs 5.50 per kilogramme if the summary is approved.
OGRA is nothing more then a tax collector/extortionist. The failure of the PPP's economic policies coupled with a mania for throwing money at allies to buy co-operation means that Pakistan has no revenue to speak of
