There is a massive responsibility on the shoulders of the legal fraternity to stand by supremacy of constitution and rule of law, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Monday. A 13-member delegation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, headed by Executive Committee Chairman Naeemuddin Khan called on the chief justice (CJP) at the Supreme Court.
During the meeting, the CJP praised the role of the legal fraternity in the lawyers’ movement in which they stood firm during the judicial crises and struggled hard to bring the rule of law back through peaceful efforts.
The delegation thanked the CJP for sparing time for them and informed him about the services and sacrifices rendered by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council during the days of the movement. They told the CJP that the bar was committed and devoted to the cause of rule of law, supremacy of constitution and independence of judiciary.
“The bar had left no stone unturned for the advancement of this cause during the movement,” they said. They also informed the CJP about their hardships. The CJP assured them that the matter would be taken up with authorities concerned. The KP Bar members praised the CJP’s professional commitment and determination for the cause of dispensation of justice, rule of law and supremacy of constitution.
They praised the National Judicial Policy which they said had proved fruitful for lawyers as well as litigants and enhanced the public’s confidence in the courts by providing inexpensive and expeditious disposal of cases.
They were of the view that due to eth National Judicial Policy, the disposal rate in their courts had been satisfactory. However, to maintain the quality of justice, they proposed that steps should be taken to improve the quality of judgements. The delegation assured the CJP of their support, adding that they would stand by the judiciary in the time of need.
