Law enforcement agencies seem absolutely unable to control ongoing violence in the city as people are losing their lives with every passing day. A political activist, Safdar, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in New Karachi. The gunmen escaped from the scene after killing him.
A 30-year-old Khurram was killed in a firing incident near Gol Market, Nazimabad. A man was gunned down at Yousuf plaza area. On the other hand, police arrested more than 15 suspects involved in different crimes from Mawachko.
‘134 profiteers arrested, 2462 challaned’
Taking action against profiteering and hoarding of the essential commodities in the holy month of Ramadan total 134 profiteers were arrested and 2,462 were challaned, said Karachi Commissioner, Roshan Ali Sheikh.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Roshan Ali Sheikh said the profiteers are being arrested, challaned and fined to contain the profiteering and hoarding of essential commodities.
He said over Rs 2.76 million have been fined on the charges of selling essential food items on excessive prices.
He said action is also being taken against those shopkeepers and vendors who have not displayed the price-list of essential items. Roshan Ali Sheikh informed the deputy commissioners of districts East, West, South, Central and Malir have also taking action against profiteering.
In crack down against profiteers, the deputy commissioners of five districts in Karachi have challaned 312 shopkeepers, 15 were sent behind the bars while Rs 399,200 have been fined on selling essential items on excessive prices, said the Commissioner Karachi.
