PML-N suspends Capt Safdar’s membership

On the directive of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, the secretary general of the party, Iqbal Zafar Jagra, has suspended the basic membership of the party of Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar, Central President PML-N Youth Wing, and issued a show cause notice to him. In the show cause notice, the impolite and irresponsible statements of MNA Capt Safdar against the party leaders have been mentioned as cause for formation of groupings within the party. It may be mentioned that Capt Safdar, who is also son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, had recently made critical speeches against Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Pir Sabir Shah, two senior leaders of the party in KP, claiming they were involved in trying to create a power struggle in the party.
This internal strife had led to a war of words with senior party leaders, with them criticising each other openly in the media. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the PML-N, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, has said that Capt Safdar had breached the party discipline and used such language during public meetings which “the party leadership does not allow to use against other parties’ leaders, let alone our own”. It had created rift among the party and hence, as per party procedure, his basic membership had been suspended because he had spoken on personal agenda and not on issues, he added. “What comes next depends on how well he reforms his behaviour. MNA Khwaja Saad Rafique was zipped back in 2005 but he mended his ways and now he is not only an MNA but a national leader also. There is no conspiracy behind it, Safdar should realise that the party runs as per rules and discipline and every member should abide by it,” Rasheed added. Capt Safdar has been given 10 days to reply to the show cause notice issued to him.
