Olympic Stadium chiefs said Saturday they face a race against the clock to get the 80,000-seater venue ready for the athletics events following the spectacular opening ceremony. A team of 600 workers have just 60 hours to convert the stadium, stripping out the scenery from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle’s showpiece, which got the Games under way on Friday. “It’s taken three months to get this set into position and we’ve got just 60 hours to get it out,” said the venue’s general manager Charles Quelch. “Then we have to take off the covers, clean the track and remark it where necessary.” AFP
