Rawalpindi police, in a crackdown against one-wheelers, have arrested eight youngsters for one-wheeling as well as rash and dangerous driving.
The city police arrested five youngsters, Ahsan, Fahad, Sajid, Farhan and Usman, for one-wheeling, rash and negligent driving on Murree Road near Committee Chowk. Similarly, the civil lines police under their operation held Abrahim and Fahim while Cantt police also netted a one-wheeler identified as Tanveer from MH Chowk. He was sent behind the bars.
It is pertinent to mention here that one-wheeling by youngsters on the city roads, especially during Ramadan nights, is on the rise and the increasing trend of one-wheeling by youngsters has claimed several precious lives and a number of youngsters have sustained serious injuries.
The citizens have urged the authorities concerned to take stern action against one-wheelers and especially check Rawal Road, the portion of Murree Road near Committee Chowk Underpass and other areas attractive for motorcyclists. The activity should especially be checked at night as during Ramadan, youngsters take benefit of the thin traffic on the city roads and do one-wheeling, creating troubles for other road users.
Special night duties of police officers should also be arranged to control crimes and other rules violations including one-wheeling.
One-wheelers are not only playing with their own lives but are also a threat for other road users, so stern action should be taken against them.
The citizens, particularly parents, should also come forward and play their role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents. Nowadays, youth are seen doing one-wheeling at break-neck speed. They should avoid this practice as it is in their own interest.
