Dance your way to fitness with Zumba

Most of us at some point in our lives – if not the previous 60 minutes – have exercised our little grey cells with regards to our weight. This is precisely why advertisements regarding weight loss programmes, techniques, medications and machines hog the billboards and TV channels alike. Even so, the success rate of those that fall for one or more of the said ads is pretty abysmal, as vindicated by the percentage of overweight people in most social circles. Let’s face it, running around your neighbourhood for hours, lifting things that are obviously too heavy for you, taking hopelessly bitter medicines or having a funny looking belt wrapped around your spherical excuse for a belly isn’t really the most exciting part of your day. This is why occasionally (read: almost always), you’d conveniently forget following what the ads or your gym instructor tells you to do, and hence, your belly continues to proudly bulge outside the jurisdiction of your waistline. Zumba, and a certain Mr Muhammad Nasrullah might change all that…
Muhammad Nasrullah Ansari is set to return home after becoming Pakistan’s only Zumba qualified instructor; and one of the hand few in Asia. Zumba is a dance fitness programme that incorporates elements from dance and aerobics to synthesise a regime which allows one to lose weight more effectively than most other means. It takes leaves out of conventional Latin and modern dance styles along with a range of musical variations, to give one’s body-fat the ideal excuse to get the hell out of our bodies. Zumba is both entertaining and multiple times more effective as far as fitness plans are concerned.
Customarily, Zumba classes are an hour long, and bring an array of dance styles like tango, axe music, salsa, cumbia, mambo, chachacha, flamenco, raggaeton, soca, samba, belly dancing and even bhangra to synthesise the best possible physical exercise for your body. Also Zumba brings different regimes to cater to different individuals, who have different fitness needs. There is Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Aqua Zumba, Zumbatomic, Zumba in the circuit, Zumba Gold-Toning and Zumba Sentao, categorised according to different parts of the body that one might want to shape up and also, according to the age group one belongs to.
In Nasruallah Ansari’s own words Zumba “feels like a party”. There’s dancing, there’s music, friends can socialise and have all the fun in the world – and all this while shaping up your body and ensuring that you maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s not like you need to be a dancing expert to be a part of Zumba’s programme. Even if you have never danced in your entire life, you could participate; for, all you need to do is follow the instructor’s lead and let the South American remedy take away your excess fat.
