The former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Asad Durrani has submitted a list of officers involved in alleged distribution of money to politicians in 1990 elections.
A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was hearing a petition, filed in 1996, by Air Marial (redt.) Asghar Khan accusing the ISI of rigging 1990 elections by disbursing Rs140 million to prevent Pakistan Peoples’ Party from winning in favor of Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI).
Earlier, Durrani was asked to submit the list containing names of ISI officials to substantiate the evidence.
The former spymaster said that the money was distributed on the direction of then Army Chief Mirza Aslam Baig.
He further added that Rs70 million were distributed by him while rest of the money was deposited in ISI’s fund, adding that the intelligence officers who distributed money belonged to Military Intelligence (MI).
The case is adjourned till July 30.
